CROCHET

Spike Stitch Crochet Pattern

Spike Stitch Crochet Pattern is the versatility of a stitch, which means you can create a variety of different textures and use this simple stitch!

Peak is worked using the same steps as a single crochet point, but instead of working on the current line where you are crocheting, you go down and work on a line below the current line. You always draw the thread so that the top of the stitch is still exactly where the top would be if it were a normal crochet stitch. You can work with point in the row immediately below or several threads below; the lower you go, the longer the point.

This Spike Stitch Crochet Pattern technique is used in combination with regular single crochet stitches in a row. For example, you can work with three simple crochet stitches, then a peak and repeat that pattern on the line. This is a common option to create an easy closure point in a project.

It can also be used to create a design by playing with different point heights within the same line. Spike stitch worked one line down, so the next worked two lines down and the next three rows down is an example of that. We’ll take a closer look at these options, but what you should know when you begin is that all of these variations on how they are worked out are actually worked out in the same way; only the dot placement (where you insert the hook to start) is different from the option to the option.

Add texture and color to your crochet with the fun and easy spike stitch. In its most basic form, you make a tack point by inserting the hook into the previous row or round before completing a point. The new point thus falls on 1 or more lines, creating a peak of texture and / or color. Since you can work the point on any type of crochet fabric, with your choice of crochet stitch, repeating the same color or adding a new one, gives you many design options.

This stitch looks great when shown in most crochet designs such as hats, scarves and (especially) blankets!
